Good Morning Britain Health Star Awards

This evening as the founder of ChemoHero I am going to do a little blog for a change!
So much has been happening that I would like to share with you….
I was recently nominated for the Good Morning Britain Community Health Star award which on Friday while eating my breakfast and watching the show I watched them announce the winner…. knowing we were heading to London for the awards ceremony I can’t deny my heart sank a little, mainly because I had hoped this would be a good opportunity to showcase our ChemoHero Boxes of kindness.

We still headed up to London and attended the arranged ITV studio tour with the lovely Helen Whittaker a specials producer for Good Morning Britain, she had also arranged a hair and makeup session because she knew I was a fan of the show and had travelled from North Devon.

Helen got me in for my makeup first as they were available. Little did I know there was a hidden camera that looked like a makeup lid right in front of me…. Thank goodness, I’m not one to pick my nose!!!!

Meeting the GMB Presenters

Once my makeup was complete my family were ushered to be in the room with me and suddenly a man in a suit came in handing me a large bunch of flowers, on looking up I noticed it was my Marmite tasting presenter Piers Morgan…. I wake up to his controversial ramblings most morning and shout at the TV screen yet love the way he can so easily rile somebody.
I was live on TV and suddenly the entire London trip became very surreal as I was announced to have won the Good Morning Britain Outstanding Health Star award.

I’d like to dedicate this award to the North Devon community for believing in me and my idea and supporting and fundraising towards it to help make ChemoHero happen.
Without this I know I would not have just had the amazing day I have just been surprised with.

We went on to the main awards ceremony at the Rosewood Hotel and met many other inspirational award winners along with some well-known faces.

ChemoHero is extremely excited tonight because we see we have the lovely Russell Watson following us on Twitter who I had the chance to chat to backstage after he presented me with my award.
He spoke of his experience of Radiotherapy for his brain tumours and how he was really taken by ChemoHero and what we do as a charity.
We also see we have the beautiful Pixie Lott following us on Twitter as well because she was inspired by the ChemoHero story!

Every celebrity there this afternoon were there because they had a link to a health story which made each and every one of them very approachable.

It certainly made us realise no matter who we are in life we all have the vulnerability of our health in common.

We would like to Thank all the ITV Good Morning Britain crew (especially the makeup ladies who made my face fit for TV).

An extra special Thank you to Helen Whittaker for making our day in London so very special.

  1. Amazing Lisa, (and all your family)
You truly are a winner in every aspect. Your face didn’t need to be made “fit for tv” as you are a beautiful person inside and out.
